Spring forward in your skincare routine with this potent vitamin C serum

Miss Radical

It may be hard to pick which vitamin C serum is best for you

Time sprung forward. It's sunnier and warmer. Gyms are more crowded. These can only mean one thing: time to switch your skincare routine.

If you live in a city where you experience all four seasons, it is common to transition your wardrobe each season. Although down coats and shearling-lined boots work during winter, you will look and feel like a hot plum fool if you wear them during Spring. As with many things in life, what works in one season may not work in another, so you have to be open to making the necessary changes to accommodate what will be best for you in each season.

Before you splurge, relax! Gas prices are still about $7 a gallon in many places, and here at Ailani, we believe in skinimalism anyway. At this point, skinimalism should be less of a trend and more of a lifestyle given the current economic climate, but that is a topic for another day. Less is more, and when it comes to skincare routines, we rely on 3-4 products to take us from day to night. That is what skinimalism is all about.

Up the Ante on your skinimalist Spring skincare routine

If you are not in the market for a skincare haul yet want a Spring-ready skincare product that will keep your skin hydrated and give your pores room to breathe, look no further than at our Up the Ante Skin Brightening Serum. This 20% vitamin C serum is our best-selling product with good reason! Unlike many other serums on the market, it is lightweight, non-sticky, and non-greasy. That makes it the perfect base for a skincare routine where different products are layered.

This plant-based serum has many essential nutrients that hydrate and protect your skin against free radicals that wreak havoc on your skin daily. Some of its ingredients include:

  • Hyaluronic acid - a natural humectant that hydrates your skin

  • Organic jojoba oil - a non-comedogenic, antibacterial oil that decreases sebum production and prevents acne

  • Witch hazel - a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces acne, soothes skin, and tightens pores

To lend more power to this antioxidant-rich serum, we added aloe because why not? Not only is aloe nature’s best moisturizer, but it heals cuts and wounds on your skin, lightens superficial blemishes and discoloration, and reduces infection in acne.

Now, do you see why we call it Up the Ante? The stakes are high with this one.

To help you make the most informed decision about which serum to add to your Spring skincare routine, we checked out a few others from brands you may know.

ailani shares product features and benefits of tarte cosmetic's youth or dare multi-acid & c serum

Like our skin brightening serum, this serum promises to brighten, exfoliate, and hydrate your skin. It contains L-ascorbic acid and K3 vita C acids, two types of vitamin C acids that fight the signs of aging by stimulating collagen production. If you like a tingle to your serum, the addition of glycolic acid does that. This alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) is the most popular anti-aging acid used in skincare products. It sloughs off dead skin cells to reveal a brighter, more refined, and smooth skin texture.

While Up the Ante may not include glycolic acid, our Bare It All-in-One Vitamin C Toner does.

We love that Tarte’s serum is vegan and hypoallergenic. Whether you are conscious or sensitive to everything, that is a win.

ailani shares features and benefits of cerave's skin renewing vitamin c serum

First of all, who doesn’t love a good drugstore brand? Cerave’s 10% pure vitamin C serum is what you would expect from a drugstore brand. It contains l-ascorbic acid, hyaluronic acid, and pantothenic acid.

Cerave promises that their vitamin C serum is good for all skin types, including sensitive skin. However, approach vitamin C skincare products with caution if you have sensitive skin. While this serum is allergy-tested, fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and paraben-free, we are still side-eyeing the number of ingredients with names that we cannot pronounce. Before trying this product, read the label and do your research.

ailani provides product features and benefits for circadia's vitamin c reversal serum

Crafted by a noted dermatologist, Dr. Pugliese, the Circadian skincare line is one to watch for people who have more money to spend on their skincare products. Similar to Up the Ante and comparable skincare serums mentioned, this one boasts anti-aging, collagen-boosting, hydrating, and smoothing capabilities. Rather than using l-ascorbic acid, they use magnesium ascorbyl phosphate instead.

According to Circadia, this form of vitamin C is as powerful as others, yet equally as effective in a lower concentration. At almost $70 for a 0.5 oz bottle, do you feel it will work best? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Whether you enlist Up the Ante to get down and dirty with free radicals or opt for the other serums mentioned above, remember that Spring cleaning also includes your skincare routine.
